Food Relief Project in Chechnya

Project Background

Hostilities in the Republic of Chechnya (Chechnya) erupted a new in 1999 and continue to scar the lives of one million people in Chechnya and the Republic of Ingushetia (Ingushetia). 70,000 people are still displaced and live with host families or in spontaneous settlements and camps. While a permanent solution to the crisis remains to be found, efforts need to become more vigorous in order to reduce people suffering and to improve their lives. Recognizing that principled and efficient humanitarian action cannot resolve the root cause of the problem, the aid community, would like to see all parties seek just and lasting peaceful solutions.

Islamic Relief “Food Programme” is one of Islamic Relief’s first and major relief programmes that has been in operation since 1995, when Islamic Relief started shipping humanitarian aid to the victims of the military actions in Chechnya.
